Review Of Available Men

Like the short story in literature, the short film can be powerful beyond the full length feature.  In the United States gay short films exposures are largely limited to the festival circuit, primarily GLBT film festivals.  The only other meaningful outlets for such efforts are the compilation DVDs. 

Most anthologies of gay themed shorts are a mixed bag in terms of quality at best.  Available Men is a cut above the rest in this regard.  Although there is a range, most of these seven films have at least something of interest in them.

This compilation is united by a theme of gay dating and, as such, none of these films address the more pressing issues (or depressing fringes) of gay life.  For the most part they rely upon observational humor to make their gently satirical comments upon the gay dating scene.

While they may not change your life, these films might provide a gentle glimpse into something that is familiar.
