Review of Make The Yuletide Gay

This little unpretentious movie is a delight!  It's funny, reassuringly predictable and cozy.  You'll laugh.  You'll cry (okay, probably not).  You wish this family was your own, while being oh so very grateful that it's not.

We happened to watch this little movie on Christmas night.  Who knows?  Maybe it will become a tradition in our house, although I suspect that it would hold up as well on any evening of the year.

It unappologetically calls upon stereotypes of the upper Midwestern parents of our protagonist, but it portrays those types perfectly in terms of the widely preconceived, though innacurate, perceptions.  They are the loving counterpoint to the equally stereotypical parents of the boyfriend, who are snooty, self-centered and oh so very boring.

If you are searching for cinematic art, this is not the movie for you.  However, this film does not set out to be art.  It sets modest goals and accomplishes them with a professionalism that is rare in such a "popcorn and candy" movie.

Curl up with your sweetie, open a can of soda (no wine for this one) and enjoy.
